Long-term complications of COVID-19 on the brain are recognised in patients across all age groups and independent of infection severity. Symptoms of such neurological deficits are diverse and include concentration problems, memory lapses, brain scan alterations, and parkinsonism. Called NeuroCOVID, this phenomenon has profound implications, posing unprecedented risks to both society and healthcare systems.

Millions across Europe are affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), encompassing Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. As diagnosed cases rise, the need for personalised solutions to manage and improve the lives of individuals with IBD becomes increasingly critical.

The Horizon IP Scan was launched as a pilot service by the European Commission and European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA). Operated by Eurice from November 2020 until November 2023, the service helped over 350 European start-ups and SMEs in valorising intellectual assets generated in collaborative research and innovation (R&I) activities.

Every year, on the 10th of February, World Pulses Day, a designated United Nations event, is observed globally to raise public awareness on the environmental significance and nutritional benefits of pulses.

Saarland University has been successful with a first-stage application in the prestigious competition of "Clusters of Excellence" of German universities. From 143 applications, 41 have been selected for full-stage proposals. Successful projects will receive national funding between EUR 3 and 10 million per year.

On 1 February, we welcome Dr Sanja Šale in Sankt Ingbert to take over a leading position in the EURICE Health Innovation Ecosystem, our largest R&I portfolio with funding acquisitions of EUR 500 million and several product development pipelines such as AI-driven personalised medicine, med tech, cancer, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, ophthalmology or orthopaedic innovations.

EMAPS-Cardio, part of the extensive Eurice "Health" project portfolio, has been highlighted as one of ten outstanding projects in a 2023 publication by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany (BMBF). The publication, titled "Successful projects in industrial key technologies", covers a broad spectrum of current and completed EU-funded projects contributing to various technological innovations.
