The Impact Licensing Initiative (ILI) has released its most comprehensive publication to date: the White Paper “State of the Art on Impact Licensing: Co-designing the Impact Licensing Ecosystem”, accompanied by a complementary paper “Needs Assessment for the Impact Licensing Concept: Voices from Stakeholders for Policy and Implementation.”

As part of the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”, the European Commission aims to establish 100 living labs and lighthouses by 2030 to lead the transition towards healthy soils for food, people, nature, and climate. In line with this ambition, EURICE is part of the two new Mission Soil projects ProPollSoil and Nemesis, both launched this October, addressing key challenges in soil health.

This year, the Research & Innovation (R&I) Days took place on 16 & 17 September 2025 in Brussels, in a hybrid format. The flagship event of the European Commission offers valuable insights to different actors of the European innovation landscape to exchange on and align their operations and practices with upcoming policy initiatives to make R&I activities more impactful in the future.

The production of steel is one of the largest sources of CO2 emissions worldwide. The steel industry accounts for millions of tons of CO₂ emissions every year, making it one of the biggest challenges on the path toward a sustainable future. However, steel is infinitely recyclable, and the use of scrap can make steel production cleaner and more sustainable. But recycling scrap comes with new challenges: residual elements like copper and nickel present in the scrap can affect the strength of the steel, especially in the heat-affected zone of a weld.

On 5 September 2025, we had the honor of attending the inauguration ceremony of Europe’s first exascale supercomputer JUPITER, capable of performing an astonishing one quintillion (10²⁰) calculations per second — an extraordinary milestone in European high-performance computing. Held at Forschungszentrum Jülich, the event brought together distinguished guests from politics, science, and industry.

GreenNanoBone, a new European research project focused on developing a novel and sustainable treatment pathway for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), kicked-off its activities end of June with its first consortium meeting in Gdańsk. With €8.6 million in funding from the European Union, this four-year project expands EURICE’s commitment to advancing healthcare innovation through collaborative, interdisciplinary research.

The EURICE team is currently at the METASCIENCE 2025 event in London, the leading international conference dedicated to the science of science, taking place from 1–3 July 2025. The event brings together researchers, policymakers, and innovators to explore how science is practiced, communicated, and supported.

On 4 June, the two projects EMPHASIS and INERRANT came together in Athens, Greece for a joint hybrid workshop. Hosted by Pleione Energy, this cluster event aimed to foster collaboration between the two complementary projects working on advanced electrochemical energy storage technologies: EMPHASIS focusing on supercapacitors, and INERRANT on batteries.

EURICE has been invited to participate in EUIndTech2025, the European Union’s flagship conference on industrial technologies, taking place from 2–4 June 2025 at the Auditorium Maximum of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. This prestigious event is organized under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and serves as a key platform for discussing the future of European industry and innovation.

With the conclusion of the EU research project AGENT (Activated GEnebank NeTwork), a five-year period of coordinated research in the field of plant genetic resources (PGR) has come to an end. The project, funded under the Horizon 2020 programme, brought together 18 partners from across Europe to address the challenges of access, use, and data standardisation in genebank collections.
