EURICE Invites Pulse Lovers, Hobby Gardeners and Citizen Scientists: Join the Next Round of the Award-Winning INCREASE Citizen Science Experiment
Registration is now open for the 2026 growing season of the INCREASE Citizen Science Experiment. Everyone with a passion for gardening, science and biodiversity is warmly welcome to join through the dedicated “INCREASE CSA” app.
Over the past five years, the INCREASE project has sparked remarkable engagement from citizens across Europe eager to contribute to agricultural research and sustainability. The INCREASE Citizen Science Experiment, recognised with the European Union Prize for Citizen Science, celebrates collective efforts to preserve and characterise diverse bean varieties and promote agrobiodiversity across the continent.
More than 25,000 citizens from all over Europe have already taken part in this collaborative initiative. Over five growing seasons, participants have cultivated a wide range of bean varieties, shared invaluable scientific data and built a vibrant community dedicated to fostering a sustainable future where biodiversity, and people, can thrive.
How to Take Part
Anyone with a smartphone, a garden, terrace, balcony or field, and a love for nature can join! Participants will receive six different varieties of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) to grow and observe during the upcoming growing season.
Using the INCREASE CSA app, participants document their plants’ progress by uploading photos and recording traits. This citizen-generated data helps the INCREASE research team better understand the characteristics of diverse bean varieties and supports efforts to enhance agrobiodiversity in Europe.
The INCREASE CSA app is free to download on all major digital platforms and is available in multiple languages. Registration and all experiment-related observations are managed exclusively through the app.
