From Fellows to Leaders: Cultivating Scientific Careers Through the MSCA Doctoral Networks
Research often begins with a spark: an idea, a question or a drive to solve problems that matter. But turning that spark into impact requires the right environment, guidance and support. At EURICE, we believe that meaningful collaboration and sustained investment in people are what fuel lasting progress in research.
Whether the goal is to advance quantum technologies, promote sustainable food systems or pioneer new directions in health research, we work alongside our partners to help build strong innovation ecosystems. Our focus is on empowering researchers and innovators to create meaningful change. Project by project, story by story.
Developing Talents: Engagement with the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks
An important aspect of this commitment lies in our involvement with projects that are part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks (MSCA-DN). Two of our projects, EVIDENCE and INNOVATION, are integrated within this prestigious EU research training network. MSCA-DN funds doctoral programmes that enable early-stage researchers to conduct interdisciplinary research across academia, industry and the public sector, providing high-quality training, mobility and opportunities to translate science into real-world solutions.
Within this framework, we have had the privilege of witnessing the remarkable journeys of Dr Maria Giustina Rotordam and Dr Nicoletta Murciano. Both began as MSCA doctoral fellows: Rotordam in the RELEVANCE project, and Murciano in EVIDENCE, managed by EURICE. Hosted at Nanion Technologies in Germany, they gained crucial experience at the interface of academia and industry.
Their paths did not stop there. Today, both Rotordam and Murciano are Principal Investigators and doctoral supervisors in INNOVATION, another EURICE supported project within the MSCA-DN programme, coordinated by our long-time partner Saarland University. Their growth from fellows to leaders exemplifies the long-term impact that well-supported, collaborative research networks can have on individual careers and the broader research community.
EURICE’s Role: Nurturing Innovation and Sustainability
We take pride in contributing to these dynamic ecosystems by partnering with projects that empower researchers, foster innovation and promote sustainability within European research and beyond. Our role is to create and sustain environments where scientific inquiry flourishes and next-generation talents are nurtured: advancing research and society together.
