QEC4QEA: Training Europe’s Next Generation of Quantum Experts

One of the key challenges in quantum computing today is not technological but educational. While the field is advancing rapidly, there remains a shortage of professionals with the skills needed to translate theoretical knowledge into practical applications. QEC4QEA directly addresses this gap by developing structured training programmes and support services tailored to different levels of expertise.

Through its integrated platform, the project offers guidance, tools, and hands-on opportunities that enable scientists, developers, and industry users to build and implement quantum-enhanced solutions. This includes training initiatives, helpdesk support, and access to both quantum and HPC infrastructures, lowering barriers for newcomers while helping experienced users deepen their expertise.

Building a skilled and connected quantum community

Beyond individual training, QEC4QEA aims to foster a broader, highly skilled European quantum community. By connecting developers, researchers, infrastructure providers, and end users, the project creates an environment where knowledge can be shared and applied more effectively. This collaborative approach is essential for overcoming the complexity of quantum technologies and accelerating their adoption in scientific and industrial domains.

The initiative also focuses on practical, application-driven learning. By working on real-world use cases—ranging from optimisation and data analysis to materials science and machine learning—participants gain experience that directly translates into impactful innovation. This hands-on approach ensures that quantum expertise is not only developed but also applied where it matters most.

Strengthening Europe’s quantum ecosystem

By combining education, infrastructure, and collaboration, QEC4QEA plays a central role in strengthening Europe’s position in quantum computing. Its training efforts contribute to building a sustainable talent pipeline, ensuring that the growing demand for quantum expertise can be met in the coming years.

Ultimately, the project helps move quantum computing from a largely theoretical field toward practical, real-world applications—supporting both scientific progress and industrial competitiveness across Europe.
