Current diagnostic methods, unable to analyse the vast amounts of multimodal health data, are imprecise and lead to frequent over- and underdiagnoses. AI models have the potential to improve diagnosis by quickly and accurately processing all available patient data.

COMFORT is developing a trustworthy AI decision support system that integrates imaging data, health records and biomarker profiles to help doctors accurately diagnose tumours, stratify patients and plan treatment for urologic cancers. By blending data from multiple sources, avoiding bias and making the AI’s decision process transparent, the system aims to increase patients’ trust in AI-powered clinical support tools. Tested in real clinical settings in several European countries, COMFORT is creating a more personalised and reliable approach to urologic cancer care.

Prostate and kidney cancer are among the most common cancers affecting millions of Europeans, representing a significant public health challenge. Early detection can be lifesaving, but today’s diagnostic tools often fall short. Some patients are over diagnosed and face unnecessary treatments, while others are diagnosed too late for effective care.

One major barrier is the inability of current systems to analyse the full range of available health data, including imaging data, blood tests and medical history. COMFORT addresses this gap by using artificial intelligence to bring these informations together, helping doctors make faster, more accurate decisions. The aim is to enable more personalised care and improve the quality of life and the treatment outcomes for people affected by urologic cancers.

Comprehensive, AI-supported Health Data Analysis

COMFORT is developing advanced AI models that help doctors make more accurate and personalised decisions in prostate and kidney cancer care. These models can analyse how different types of medical data interact—such as MRI and CT scans, blood tests and patient records. By combining these insights, the system will support earlier and more reliable diagnosis and help identify which cancers require immediate treatment and which can be safely monitored.

This kind of precise patient stratification can reduce unnecessary interventions and improve outcomes. To build trust in the technology, COMFORT’s AI tools will be designed to explain their reasoning in clear terms, so that both doctors and patients can understand how decisions are made.
