From Research to Patient Empowerment: miGUT-Health Releases ENGAGE-IBD Guide
For people living with chronic conditions, managing health extends far beyond medical appointments. It involves understanding symptoms, making informed decisions, communicating with healthcare professionals, and navigating everyday challenges. For individuals living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), understanding their condition and actively engaging in their care can make a significant difference in their health journey.
Within the Horizon Europe project miGut-Health, partners worked closely with patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and researchers to develop the ENGAGE-IBD Personalised Health Engagement Guide. Led by EngageMinds HUB in collaboration with the International Federation of Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis Associations (IFCCA), the guide was co-created with input from patients, clinicians, researchers and health engagement experts. Through workshops, consultations and collaborative activities, people with lived experience of IBD helped shape the content and priorities of the Guide, ensuring it responds to real-world needs and challenges.
The result is a practical resource designed to support people living with Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis in understanding their condition, navigating healthcare interactions and becoming more active participants in managing their health.
This approach reflects a broader shift in European health research towards patient-centred innovation. Empowering patients with accessible, trustworthy and actionable information is increasingly recognised as a key component of improving health outcomes and quality of life.
To make the Guide accessible to a wider audience, the resource is available in several languages, including English, Spanish and Greek, with additional language versions planned in the future. By reducing language barriers, miGut-Health contributes to improving health literacy and ensuring that more people can benefit from the knowledge generated through European research and innovation.
