What the project is about

Quantum computers have the potential to solve highly complex problems far beyond the reach of today's most powerful supercomputers. Yet, developing reliable quantum systems remains one of the greatest technological challenges of our time.

QSolid brings together 26 German research institutions and companies to develop a next-generation quantum computer with significantly improved error rates based on neutral-atom technology. Beyond building the hardware itself, the project is establishing the scientific, technological and organisational foundations for future quantum applications by integrating the system into Forschungszentrum Jülich's JUNIQ infrastructure, making it accessible to researchers and industry.

Why it matters

Quantum technologies are expected to transform fields ranging from materials science and chemistry to artificial intelligence, logistics and energy systems.

By developing one of Germany's most ambitious quantum computing initiatives, QSolid strengthens Europe's technological capabilities in a strategically important field while helping secure future standards, intellectual property and scientific excellence. At the same time, the project creates the conditions for broader access to quantum computing and accelerates the transfer of this emerging technology into research and industrial applications.
