What the project is about

The MOWSES project aims to support the safe use of green steel in European infrastructure by addressing challenges introduced by recycled scrap, which often contains residual elements like copper and nickel. These can impact weldability and structural integrity, especially in welded joints' heat-affected zones. MOWSES employs and develops advanced analytical methods, such as machine learning, thermodynamic simulations, and finite element modelling (FEM) of microstructural behaviour to predict and enhance performance in these critical areas. The goal is to create steel grades that retain strength and durability while reducing CO₂ emissions, supporting Europe’s shift towards sustainable, climate-neutral infrastructure.
