More than 120 emerging AI talents and experts gathered at the Forum for Digital Technologies in Berlin on 14–15 October to exchange perspectives on research transfer, responsible AI and career opportunities for the next generation of researchers. Organised by AI Grid, a network supporting young AI researchers in Germany, the summit focused on strengthening the connections between science, industry and entrepreneurship.
Jakob Haard, Head of EURICE's Berlin Office, contributed to the fishbowl discussion "From Lab to Real-World Applications", exploring how promising AI research can be translated into concrete solutions. Bringing a European perspective to the discussion, he highlighted the opportunities and challenges associated with collaborative research and innovation (R&I) endeavours, particularly when it comes to connecting diverse partners, navigating complex funding and innovation environments, and creating pathways from research results to practical application.
The discussion also touched on the importance of stronger links between academia and industry, improved conditions for research-based spin-offs and more effective knowledge transfer – all key ingredients for strengthening Europe's AI innovation landscape.
