EuroScience Open Forum 2018: Shaping the Future of EU Research & Innovation Programmes
Quo vadis “Horizon Europe”? - Expectations on communication and exploitation of project results
EU Commissioner Carlos Moedas presented the new framework programme, Horizon Europe, to the largest science meeting on the continent, with over 4,000 delegates attending the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF2018) in Toulouse.
In a satellite event organised by the European Commission on July 9, 2018, panellists from different EC services presented strategic considerations regarding effective communication and exploitation to increase the impact of EC-funded research and innovation projects in “Horizon Europe” as compared to the current programme. The panel session has been accompanied by a keynote speech from Eurice CEO Jörg Scherer focusing on best practices derived from his experience of coordinating the extensive European IPR Helpdesk training programme related to IP management and exploitation of Horizon 2020 project results.
“Horizon Europe” is expected to become not only the biggest ever EU research and innovation funding programme, but also the most impact-driven. Therefore, proper strategies and implementation plans addressing communication, dissemination and exploitation of project results are crucial and the key to success. Project beneficiaries have the ever-increasing obligation to engage in communication, dissemination and exploitation activities. However, the distinction between the three is not always clear and they need to detect the best way to implement their project plans and create the best possible impact.

Once again, we were impressed by the overwhelming response to the presentation of this brochure developed within the framework of a very effective collaboration between the European IPR Helpdesk and the European Commission. A big thank you goes to all experts who contributed their input and feedback to this brochure which has developed into a very valuable reference document when preparing H2020 proposals or implementing H2020 projects.
The interactive half-day workshop was attended by over 100 EU participants, mostly project coordinators, National Contact Point representatives and ESOF delegates.
