A taste of TRADITOM at the EU Open Day 2017
On May 06 we celebrated Europe day! The European institutions in Brussels opened their doors to the public and welcomed about 12,000 visitors. Interactive and playful stands as well as outdoor activities let everyone experience how European institutions work, what their main priorities are and what is being done for citizens.
During the EU Open Day, TRADITOM joined the stand “EU Science around the clock!” to introduce adults and children to the fascinating world of tomato research.
Coordinator Antonio Granell and his team were enthusiastic to chat, play, explain and share the results of the project with visitors. Children and their parents were invited to join a tomato quiz or detecting human “supertasters”. This was highlighted by a tomato tasting that demonstrated different European varieties. The event was also attended by commissioners Günther Oettinger (Member of the EC in charge of Budget and Human Resources) and Carlos Moedas (Member of the EC in charge of Research) who enjoyed a taste of TRADITOM himself.
The TRADITOM consortium was happy to contribute and show how important research and innovation are for the European economy and quality of life.
