Refining B-SMART research and cooperation

From 01 to 02 February 2018, the B-SMART consortium came together for its 2nd Progress Meeting in Malvern, UK to discuss and align the project’s scientific work and further collaboration. The meeting was hosted by B-SMART partner Malvern Instruments Ltd (Malvern) on their premises.

The two meeting days were preceded by a workshop on Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA) organized by the host institution and several consortium members already attended this event. The actual progress meeting was dedicated to the work achieved during the first 13 months of the project and to planning the next steps ahead. Representatives of all partners were present and most attended the meeting with more than two representatives showing the influence the project has on all consortium members. Especially PhD students and Postdocs accompanied their Principal Investigators and actively joined the discussion of the project’s progress. The consortium happily welcomed three guests: Dr Adriele Prina-Mello took part in the meeting in his role as Industrial and Exploitation Advisory Board member, Dr Dorota Roberts was welcomed as the external monitoring expert appointed by the European Commission and Richard Broadhead provided feedback on the specific technology used within the consortium.

On the first day, all consortium members presented their scientific and management results since the last meeting. The project progress was extensively discussed and all partners had the opportunity to address challenges within the different work packages as well as among the three clusters. In the afternoon, Patrick Hole and his colleagues from Malvern had organised a lab tour at the Malvern Instruments facility presenting their newest applications and explaining their techniques for understanding advancing the understanding of dispersed systems. The second day focused on key aspects of project dissemination and an exploitation session on central issues of Key Exploitable Results (KER) was held. With the support of the I&EAB member new potential exploitable results could be identified; the discussion will be continued during the course of the project to maximise B-SMART’s output and impact.

Overall, the meeting was very successful and enabled vivid and fruitful discussions among the entire consortium as well as in small groups. Project coordinator Raymond Schiffelers was very pleased with the outcome and considered the meeting as highly productive. He thanked everyone for the proactive and useful input and especially the guests whose active contributions during the two meeting days opened new insights and perspectives to the consortium.

The next progress meeting will take place in less than six months in Rome, Italy and will be combined with a dissemination workshop, on which more information will follow soon.

The Eurice team is involved in B-SMART as management and dissemination partner and contributes to the successful implementation of the project goals by supporting the consortium in all aspects of project management and dissemination activities.
