Programme
INTERREG IV A 2007-2013 Greater Region

Contract Number

Abstract
The INTERREG project ALLEGRO focuses on the development of new computer-based technologies for foreign language learning. Its aim is to make foreign language learning more interactive, more engaging, and more fun. Its vision is to give learners tools which enable them to exercise (with the help of a computer) practical conversations, which they might encounter in real life.
With the overall goal of supporting foreign language education in the Greater Region, ALLEGRO strives to provide advanced interactive language learning tools for German and French focusing on verbal expression in everyday situations and on the pronunciation of sounds and prosodic patterns which do not exist in the users’ respective mother-tongues. In a second step, the project consortium wants to make these tools available online in order to facilitate their continuous use by learners and teachers. All these efforts will strengthen the cross-border collaboration between the partner institutions in the areas of speech and language technology thereby contributing to their respective international visibility.
