PneumoNP successfully completed its first 18 months

Right before the big summer break, the PneumoNP consortium came together in Brussels on July 7-8, 2015 for a combined 2-day Progress/Review Meeting.

Eurice and KoWi, the European Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations, welcomed the partners in the heart of Brussels for their 3rd Progress Meeting on the first day. With a look above the roofs of the city, the consortium presented the work they had done over the past six months since their last meeting in Rotterdam and decisions were taken regarding their upcoming work.

A special emphasis in this meeting was laid on the preparations for the in vivo studies to be implemented by PneumoNP partner ERASMUS MC after the summer. In this regard, appropriate nanosystems, provided by the IK4 Cidetec, Universiteit Utrecht, Adenium as well as Setlance and tested by Fraunhofer ITEM in in vitro cytotoxicity studies, were selected for further testing and experiments in vivo. In the second half of the project, based on the results of these experiments, 3 nanosystems will finally be chosen for further experiments.

On the second day, the consortium met Heico Frima, their EC Project Officer, and María Blanco Prieto, the project’s PTA, at the premises of the EC for their 1st Review Meeting.

The coordinator and Work Package leaders presented the work done in the first 18 months of the project’s duration while the project’s PO and PTA were given the opportunity to raise questions. In the early afternoon, the meeting concluded with a very positive evaluation by the two reviewers and Heico Frima stating that “The prospects of the project to be successful look very good based on the results that have been presented.”

PneumoNP is a 4-year collaborative project funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme. It aims to develop a theragnostic system for the treatment of Gram-negative bacterial infections in lungs.

Eurice is involved in PneumoNP as the management partner and contributes to the successful implementation of the project goals.
